Honduras

Brechbill Family

In November, 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated the country of Honduras. In one week, more than four feet of rain fell. Whole villages were wiped out by mudslides and floods. Loss of life was in the thousands with many more thousands homeless. God placed a burden on the hearts of several brothers in the churches of Cleveland, NC and Bedford, PA that this was the time to present the gospel to the people of Honduras.

After several exploratory trips, we were led to Pena Blanca, where we helped to rebuild some housing at a Seventh Day Adventist orphanage. We eventually bought a property in that area, with the vision of establishing a mission base from which we could send visitors and missionaries into the mountains and more remote areas of Honduras. Currently there are several missionary families living in the Pena Blanca/ El Eden area and there is a small congregation of believers there.

Troyer Family

Beginning in about 2001, several brothers began to explore the remote area of Lempira. What they found was that there were evangelical churches, at least in some parts of Lempira, but because of the difficult financial situation in that area, many people could not afford to purchase a Bible. And so began the vision for the distribution of Bibles and various other books at subsidized prices. Over the years, quite a few trips were taken to distribute books throughout Lempira. In 2005, the Troyer family moved to the village of Erandique, Lempira for the purpose of facilitating the distribution of literature as well as evangelizing and other ways of ministering to the people of Lempira. The literature distribution ministry is an ongoing project and has expanded to other areas of Honduras as well.

Seeing a great need in the medical field in Lempira, we opened a medical clinic in Carizal, Lempira, which is close to Erandique, where the Troyer family lives. The clinic has given us many opportunities to minister, both physically, and also to share the gospel with people from many parts of Lempira.
